Not Permitted to Use Social Security Number –
The first and the foremost thing which you should do are collecting all the information about the 2290 form. And also know that your employer identification number is very essential and mandatory. If you think you can use your social security number, and then let me tell you that you are not permitted to use your social security number in anyway. All that you need is employer identification number for filling 2290 form. If you do not have your EIN then you will have to apply for a new one. You will have to wait for 4 weeks for your new EIN to come. The reason is that the IRS takes time so that it can be established in their system before filling the 2290 form. And you should use the same name for filing the IRS schedule 1 copy which is in your EIN.
Vehicle Identification Number –
While filing your IRS form 2290it is very important for you to note that you should have the same name which is there in your employer identification number. Your e-file name control must match your EIN name. After that comes the VIN i.e. the vehicle identification number. If you are using more than 25 heavy vehicles or trucks, then you are supposed to submit the VIN of each vehicle while filing 2290 online. Plus, you should provide the numbers correctly. And suppose you even gave the wrong number of vehicles then it can be easily corrected.
Guidelines To Be Followed –
- Then next instruction is that, you should also file in the form 2290 tax the taxable gross weight of each and every vehicle. This is also mandatory. Other instructions that you are supposed to follow while calculating the taxable gross weight for form 2290 online are as follows –
- Figure and pay the tax due on highway motor vehicles used during the period with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more;
- Figure and pay the tax due on a vehicle for which you completed the suspension statement on another Form 2290 if that vehicle later exceeded the mileage use limit during the period;
- Figure and pay the tax due if, during the period, the taxable gross weight of a vehicle increases and the vehicle falls into a new category;
- Claim suspension from the tax when a vehicle is expected to be used 5,000 miles or less (7,500 miles or less for agricultural vehicles) during the period;
- Claim a credit for tax paid on vehicles that were destroyed, stolen, sold, or used 5,000 miles or less (7,500 miles or less for agricultural vehicles);
- Report acquisition of a used taxable vehicle for which the tax has been suspended;
- Figure and pay the tax due on a used taxable vehicle acquired and used during the period.
